HDD vs. SSD

HDD vs. SSD | Which one is better?

What is SSD?

SSD stands for solid state drive because they have no moving parts.

You can understand what SSD is, before take some little bit information about what is Hard Disk Drive (HDD). HDD is a data storage device in to the computers.

A hard disk drive store data on series of spinning magnetic disks called platter.

HDD has a several arm with several head that read and write data on the disk.

The arm moves the head across the surface of the disk to access different type of data. HDD store data like personal files, Multimedia files or Business files and many more as you want.

HDD is a big in size compare to the SSD.

HDD available in two form factors

2.5 inch used in laptops and

3.5 inch used in desktop computers.

SSD store data in flash based memory or integrated circuit.

Very fast compare to the HDD. It’s a flexible for smaller device. SSD optimized for better performance.

It’s replace the hard-disk drive, because hard-disk store data into the spinning disk form of magnetically , very much time to read and write data compare to the solid state drive.

Nowadays playing Computer games is a craze between the youngsters.

The Games Size consume most of your hard disk space which makes your computer hang or slow even it interrupt your gaming experience error like lag in your game or not responding error.

So normally Hard disk can’t work efficiently for smoothly gaming experience, we need a SSD for improved gaming experience.

Best gaming experience fulfilled by SSD because game load and access data quickly from secondary storage.

Type of SSDs

SATA SSD

This is a first generation of SSD. Reach a read speed up to 570 MB/s.

NVMe SSD

NVMe stands for Non volatile memory Express.

higher speed than SATA SSD. Speed up to 2600 MB/s. Almost five times faster as a SATA SSD.

M.2 SSD

It was formerly known as Next generation Form Factor (NGFF). M.2 SSD containing flash memory and controller chip.

A M.2 is a small form factor solid state drive that is used in internally mounted in storage expansion card. It’s smaller than Compare to the other SSDs.

HDD vs. SSD

HDD

  1. Hard Disk Drive
  2. Booting process is Moderate compare to SSD
  3. Old Mechanism to store data into mechanical platters
  4. Data read and written by a head
  5. HDD lifespan is three to five years
  6. Speed range of hard disk is from 100 KB to 1.7 MB/sec
  7. Maximum storage capacity 80 TB
  8. Price Compare to SDD is low

SDD

  1. Solid State Drive
  2. Booting process is very fast comparing to HDD.
  3. New mechanism, Use flash based memory for storing information
  4. SDD have Individual memory cell for storing bits that are instantly accessible by controller.
  5. SDD generally has Lifespan Approximately 10 years.
  6. Speed range of SSD is from 50 MB to 250 MB/sec
  7. Maximum storage capacity 100 TB
  8. SSD market price is very high till the date but now prices are dropping down.

Benefits of SSD

  • Use less power compare to the HDD

SSD have a no moving part, they require less power to operate. Better optimization of your battery.

  • Faster

Faster boot time, faster application loading time

  • SSD have a longer lifespan
  • Easy Installation
  • Smooth Gaming Experience
  • Quickly read and write operation
  • Available in different of size

Which one is better?

My opinion on this article SSD(solid state drive) is a best choice for today because SSD is very efficient and much more faster compare to HDD(Hard disk drive).
